FENG Technology Loan – Design and Implementation of Innovative Products

Do you have a new technology that you want to use to develop a new or significantly improved product? The FENG Technology Loan programme supports SMEs planning to implement their own or acquired technology and use it to start manufacturing new products or significantly improve existing processes.

For over 25 years, we have specialised in industrial design and product development. As part of your project, we can help turn technological requirements into a specific product solution, from concept development, ergonomics and construction design through 3D models and prototypes to preparing the product for the next stages of implementation and manufacturing..

We can start working with the results of previous R&D activities, an existing technology, a prototype, a 3D model or a product that requires further development before implementation.

FENG Technology Loan – What is the programme about?

The Technology Loan is Measure 2.32 under the European Funds for a Modern Economy programme. It is administered by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK).

The programme is aimed at micro, small and medium-sized enterprises that want to implement a new technology and use it to start producing new or significantly improved products, processes or services.

The technology may be developed independently by the company or acquired from another entity. It may take the form of industrial property rights, results of development work, industrial research results or unpatented technical knowledge.

Key information about the Technology Loan programme

Minimum eligible costs No minimum threshold
Maximum eligible costs Equivalent of EUR 50 million
Funding rate 25% to 70%, depending on the type of expenditure, company size and investment location

The technology grant is not paid to the company as unrestricted cash. It is used to repay part of the principal of a technology loan obtained from a bank cooperating with BGK.

What requirements must be met to qualify for the Technology Loan?

To apply for funding, a company must qualify as an SME and operate in Poland.

The project must involve the implementation of a new technology to which the company holds the necessary rights. The investment should result in the start of production of new or significantly improved products, processes or services.

Creditworthiness is also important. The funding application must include a technology loan commitment or a conditional loan agreement issued by the lending bank. Without this document, a valid funding application cannot be submitted.

The project must also meet the remaining criteria specified in the call documentation, including those related to innovation, investment justification and the eligibility of expenditure under the programme.

What is considered a new technology under the Technology Loan programme?

Under the Technology Loan programme, simply having an innovative product is not enough. The starting point must be a technology that will be implemented within the company.

This technology may be based on:

  • the company’s own research and development results,
  • industrial research results,
  • development work results,
  • industrial property rights,
  • an acquired licence or other rights,
  • unpatented technical knowledge.

Most importantly, the company must be able to demonstrate that implementing the technology will lead to the creation of a new or significantly improved product, process or service. Simply purchasing a modern machine is therefore not sufficient. The machine should form part of a broader investment involving the implementation of a specific technology.

We help turn technologies and partially developed solutions into fully defined products.

Contact us. We will identify what is still needed before the next stage of implementation and propose the scope of further design work.

At what stage should the product be?

The Technology Loan is not a programme intended to finance fundamental R&D activities. The technology should already exist and be sufficiently developed to allow the company to plan its implementation.

This means that the company should know:

  • which technology will be implemented,
  • what rights it holds to use the technology,
  • what product, process or service will be developed using it,
  • what investments are required to begin implementation,
  • what machinery, equipment or other resources will be needed,
  • how the technology will affect the product or process.

The product does not always have to be fully ready for serial production, but it should be more than an unverified idea.

Do you have a technology, but the product still needs further development?

This is a common situation. A company may already have R&D results, proprietary technology or an acquired solution but still need to design a specific product that will use that technology.

In such cases, our industrial design studio, Grid, can help transform a technological solution into a product prepared for the next stages of implementation. Our work may include:

  • product concept development,
  • product form and ergonomic design,
  • housing and enclosure design,
  • component design,
  • integration of electronic and mechanical components,
  • preparation of 3D models,
  • prototype development,
  • ergonomics and usability testing,
  • selection of materials and manufacturing technologies,
  • product optimisation for manufacturing,
  • preparation of documentation for further implementation.

We do not start the design process from scratch if some elements of the solution have already been properly developed. We analyse the existing materials and make use of components that can be safely carried forward to the next stages.

How much funding is available under the Technology Loan programme?

The funding rate may range from 25% to 70% of eligible costs. The exact amount of the technology grant depends on:

  • the type of expenditure,
  • company size,
  • investment location,
  • applicable state aid regulations.

What costs may be eligible for funding?

The Technology Loan primarily finances investments required to implement a new technology. Eligible costs may include:

  • purchase or production of fixed assets,
  • machinery and equipment,
  • real estate and certain property rights,
  • construction works and materials,
  • intangible assets and intellectual property rights,
  • patent acquisition costs.

Detailed rules and limits for each category are specified in the programme documentation. The maximum value of eligible project expenditure is equivalent to EUR 50 million, and no minimum threshold has been established.

At what stage can you contact Grid?

You can contact us when the manufacturing technology has already been defined, but you still need to design or refine the product that will use it. Your starting point may include:

  • a need to develop a new product using a specific technology,
  • general requirements without a finished concept,
  • an existing product concept based on a new technology,
  • results of previous R&D activities,
  • a 3D model,
  • technical documentation,
  • an initial prototype,
  • an existing product that is to be significantly improved,
  • a device requiring a new housing, components or structural modifications,
  • a product that needs to be adapted to the technology being implemented.

We begin by analysing the current state of the product, if it already exists, and reviewing the available materials. We identify which elements are ready and which require further design, prototyping or optimisation before implementation.

Our role is not to develop the technology itself but to prepare a product capable of using it. We translate technological requirements into design solutions covering construction, ergonomics, housing, components, materials and manufacturing methods.

Do you have a technology that you want to implement in a new product?

If you have R&D results, your own technology or an acquired solution and need to turn it into a specific product, we can join your project during the design, prototyping and implementation preparation stages.

Contact us. We will determine how to translate your technological requirements into a specific product and define the scope of work needed to develop it and prepare it for implementation.

FAQ

Support is provided in the form of a technology grant. This funding is used to partially repay the principal of a technology loan taken out to finance the investment.

No. The technology may be developed in-house or acquired from another entity. However, the company must hold the appropriate rights to use and implement it.

Purchasing a modern machine alone is not sufficient. Machinery and other fixed assets should be used to implement a specific new technology that will result in a new or significantly improved product, process or service.

The product does not have to be ready for serial production, but the technology should already be developed and ready for implementation. The Technology Loan is not intended to finance fundamental R&D activities on solutions that are still at a very early stage of development.
